The City of Minden offers a variety of facilities and services that enhance the community’s quality of life. The people who live here invigorate the community with new businesses which in turn spark a community spirit and unbridled optimism about its future. With our low crime rate, affordable housing, accredited schools, community activities and a close proximity to the city of Kearney, Minden is an attractive place to live. The following is a list of facilities and services that we have to offer you.
Recreational Facilities
Minden believes in community wellness and provides the community with recreational facilities for many activities. Activities include Frisbee golf, swimming, tennis, hunting, bowling, theatre-going, performing arts, baseball, softball, soccer, wellness walks, and area attractions.
Outdoor Classroom
The Outdoor Classroom is a wonderful addition to the Minden landscape and is located just west of the CL Jones Middle School. The pond is encircled by a hike/bike trail that winds gracefully over a bridge and back around the park’s perennial flowering plants. There is a lookout deck over the pond and several picnic tables and benches available.
Parks and Recreation
The Minden Parks and Recreation Department maintain the three parks and facilities throughout Minden. Our department also offers recreational and leisure programs and operates the Minden Swimming Pool and the American Legion Ball Field. Swimming Pool
The Minden Municipal Swimming Pool opens every year on Memorial Day with Splash Day. Splash Day provides free admission to the public on the first day of the swimming season. The pool is open until mid- to-late August. Hours are daily; weather permitting, 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, the pool is open from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Game Night. Season passes are available for families for $100 and individual passes for $70. The daily pool pass is $3 for adults and $2 for children. There are lap lanes available Monday through Friday between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The pool asks that you do not leave children, 6 years old and under, unaccompanied at the pool at anytime.
American Red Cross Swim Lessons are offered at the pool at $20 per session and Water Aerobics are offered at $1 per class. Pool rental is available for private parties. Please call 308-832-1820 to be directed to the pool manager if you would like to inquire about any of the classes.
During the summer, the swimming pool is home to the Minden Swim Team. Adults and youngsters are welcome to become part of the swim team. Please contact the pool manager if you are interested.
Minden Country Club
Minden Country Club sits on the north edge of the city between the airport and the Harold Warp Pioneer Village. It is an open 9-hole course with a scattering of trees and well-cared for fare ways and greens that are some of the best in the state. The club operates under seasonal hours. The Public Library System has an active program of services for children. In the summer, they offer their annual reading program. The library’s collection includes excellent selections of fiction, large print books, videos, DVD’s, daily local newspapers, a large selection of magazines and audio books on cassette and CD’s. The library also has a large collection of cake pans that can be checked out. Three public access computers offer fast Internet access. Genealogy fans can find newspapers on microfilm dating back to the 1800’s.
To check out materials, you will need to sign up for a library card. Friends of the Library, is an active group that raises funds and provides volunteer help with special projects. Minden Municipal Airport
North Hwy 10/355 E 21 Cul-de-sac
The Minden Municipal Airport is located at 355 E 21 Cul-de-sac. The airport is owned by the City of Minden and is governed by the Airport Authority which is a five member Airport Advisory Board. The airport is available 24/7 with tie downs, hangers and fuel available. There is a modern pilot’s lounge complete with showers and a meeting room. Should you need to drive somewhere, there is also a courtesy car available. Within a half mile walking distance from the airport is an open 9-hole golf course and several eateries. Fire Department

The Minden Volunteer Fire Department has proudly served the citizens of Minden since 1890. The department responds to a coverage area of 360 square miles including the Villages of Heartwell and Norman. Minden's Fire Department consists of 30 volunteer fire fighters of which 18 are emergency medical technicians.
Fire and emergency equipment includes a 1000 gpm pumper, 750 gpm pumper/equipment truck, two emergency response ambulance (defibrillator certified) and three grass rigs. Minden's fire insurance classification is seven.
If you are interested in joining the highly trained Fire Fighters and Emergency Medical Technicians of the Minden Volunteer Fire Department, please call a representative at (308) 830-0286. The fire fighters host an annual Pancake Feed in the spring and give the local children an opportunity to ride on a fire truck.
Police Department

Minden's Police Department is located at 246 N Colorado and consists of five sworn officers and five patrol units. The police department provides 24 hour coverage. Minden boasts a very low crime rate.
According to the 2006 Crime Statistics, only 2.46 percent of Minden’s population was affected by property crime as compared to the state’s low 3.34 percent. Violent crime was virtually non-existent in Minden and Kearney County while the state registered a 0.28 percentage of the population being affected. Street Department

Welcome to the City of Minden’s Street Department. The department is responsible for the maintenance of alleys, storm water drainage systems, bridges, culverts, public right of way and over 165 miles of street. These are some of the services provided by the Street Department:

Recycling Department

Minden strives to be a “Green” City and provides its citizen’s with recycling capabilities. Recycling materials are picked up the same day as the trash is picked up, every other week. Items need to be placed curbside since there is no Drop Off site available. There is no additional charge to have your recycled materials picked up. Pick up a list of accepted recyclables and a calendar stating recyclable days in the City Office at 325 N Colorado or call them at 308.832.1820.
Household hazardous waste can be taken to the Minden Landfill located 3.5 miles east of Minden on Highway 6/34 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. There is no cost involved. Following are the hazardous items that are accepted:
- Auto Products: Brake Fluid, Deicer, Lubricant, Sealant
- Inside the Home: Bleach, Cleaners, Degreasers, Disinfectants, Lighter Fluid
- Pesticides/Pet Care: Animal Repellant, Fungicide, Herbicide, Insecticide, Flea & Tick Control, Stain/Odor Remover
