If you haven't ever seen the lights on the Kearney County Courthouse or if you have and just haven't seen them in awhile, it is time to make the drive to Minden and take in the holiday lights. The Courthouse's Christmas lights are turned on at 5 PM every evening, now until New Year's Day. Plan to make an evening of Christmas light viewing in "The Christmas City" this Sunday, Dec. 5 and attend a soup supper at 5:30 PM hosted by the Special Olympics at the Senior Center. Then as dusk falls, enjoy the 7 PM Christmas pageant followed by the turning on of the 12,000+ Christmas lights.
It is fun to hear the locals tell stories and one that is heard quite frequently is about the airplane pilot who had lost his way and was concerned but his co-pilot calmly told him that he knew where they were. When the co-pilot was asked how he knew where they were, he distinctly pointed out the Minden Courthouse which could be seen all decked out in its lighting splendor and stated "That's would be Minden."
Plan to enjoy a hot coffee or hot chocolate and explore our unique shops while you are in town. As you tour the town you can enjoy the many homes in Minden which are deck out with lights for the holiday season. A final showing of the Christmas pagaent will be on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 7 PM.
